Trimethylsulfoxonium iodide reacts with sodium hydride to prepare dimethyloxosulfonium methylide, which is used as a methylene-transfer reagent in synthetic chemistry. It is used to prepare ylide, which reacts with carbonyl compounds to get epoxides. Further, it reacts with alfa,beta-unsaturated esters to get cyclopropyl esters.

Anwendungen
Trimethylsulfoniumiodid reagiert mit Natriumhydrid zur Herstellung von Dimethyloxosulfonium-methylid, das in der synthetischen Chemie als Methylentransferreagenz verwendet wird. Es wird zur Herstellung von Ylid verwendet, das mit Carbonylverbindungen reagiert, um Epoxide zu erhalten. Darüber hinaus reagiert es mit alfa,beta-ungesättigten Estern, um Cyclopropylester zu erhalten.
