Tri-n-butylamine is an important intermediate in the production of phase transfer catalysts like tributylmethylammonium chloride and tributylbenzylammonium chloride. It is also used in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, surfactants, lubricant additives, vulcanization accelerators and dyes. It acts as a catalyst and as a solvent in organic syntheses and polymerization reactions. It serves as a strong base anion exchanger, acid acceptor, inhibitor in hydraulic fluids and an emulsifying agent. Further, it is used to prepare photographic chemicals.

Anwendungen
Tri-n-Butylamin ist ein wichtiges Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung von Phasentransferkatalysatoren wie Tributylmethylammoniumchlorid und Tributylbenzylammoniumchlorid. Es wird auch in Pharmazeutika, Agrochemikalien, Tensiden, Schmierstoffadditiven, Vulkanisierungsbeschleunigern und Farbstoffen eingesetzt. Es wirkt als Katalysator und als Lösungsmittel in organischen Synthesen und Polymerisationsreaktionen. Es dient als stark basischer Anionenaustauscher, Säureakzeptor, Inhibitor in Hydraulikflüssigkeiten und Emulgator. Darüber hinaus wird es zur Herstellung von Fotochemikalien verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Aceton, Ethanol, Ethylether und den meisten organischen Lösungsmitteln. Nicht mit Wasser mischbar.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
