Rapidly detect multiple genetic targets for Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli O157:H7 and other STEC in food and environmental samples with the Thermo Scientific™ SureTect™ Escherichia coli O157:H7 and STEC PCR workflow. The assay has been extensively tested on a range of food matrices from food manufacturing environments, including raw meat (excluding poultry), vegetables, fruits, juices, and raw dairy samples and enables users to reliably detect and differentiate Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli O157:H7 and other STEC in as little as 10 hours.

The Thermo Scientific™ SureTect™ Escherichia coli O157:H7 and STEC Screening PCR Assay is part of a complete workflow for the rapid detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7, stx, eae, and the Escherichia coli STEC serotypes (O26, O45, O103, O111, O121, O145) from the tested samples.
Samples assessed as positive using the SureTect™ Escherichia coli O157:H7 and STEC Screening PCR Assay are further tested using this SureTect™ Escherichia coli STEC Identification PCR Assay.

Thermo Scientific™ SureTect™ Escherichia coli O157:H7 and STEC Screening PCR Assay includes:
- Lysis Reagent 1 Tubes
- Proteinase K
- Escherichia coli O157:H7 and STEC Screening PCR Tubes
- Thermo Scientific 96-Well Pierceable Seals
- PCR Caps
Enriched samples are pipetted into pre-filled lysis tubes, along with Proteinase K, before incubation, to lyse any bacterial cells present in the sample and release their DNA into the solution. The lysate is then loaded into the SureTect Escherichia coli O157:H7 and STEC Screening PCR tubes to re-hydrate the pre-loaded PCR pellet which contains all the necessary components and reagents for PCR, including a probe, primers and DNA template for the internal positive control (IPC).
The PCR tubes are sealed, then loaded into the Applied Biosystems™ QuantStudio™ 5 Food Safety Real Time PCR Instrument with RapidFinder™ Analysis Software v3.0 or later. After completing the run, interpreted results are clearly displayed and can be reported, stored, printed or downloaded as required. The internal amplification control confirms correct assay conditions have occurred.
