Sodium n-dodecyl sulfate is an anionic detergent used to function as a protein denaturant. It is mainly used in detergents for laundry with many cleaning applications. It finds application in the determination of protein molecular weight by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and in the analysis of hemoglobin. In food products, it is used as an emulsifying agent and a whipping aid. It is widely found in toothpastes, shampoos, shaving creams and bubble bath formulations due to its thickening effect and ability to create a lather.

Anwendungen
Natrium-n-Dodecylsulfat ist ein anionisches Reinigungsmittel, das als Proteindenaturant verwendet wird. Es wird hauptsächlich in Waschmitteln für Wäschereien mit vielen Reinigungsanwendungen eingesetzt. Es findet Anwendung bei der Bestimmung des Proteinmolekülgewichts durch Polyacrylamid-Gelelektrophorese und bei der Analyse von Hämoglobin. In Lebensmitteln wird es als Emulgator und Aufschlaghilfe verwendet. Es ist weit verbreitet in Zahnpasta, Shampoos, Rasiercremes und Schaumbadformulierungen aufgrund seiner verdickenden Wirkung und der Fähigkeit, Schaum zu bilden.

Löslichkeit
Wasserlöslich. Schwer löslich in Ethanol.
