Silicon carbide is used in abrasives, in polishing and grinding. It is widely applied in applications calling for high endurance, such as automobile brakes, car clutches and ceramic plates in bulletproof vests. Electronic applications of silicon carbide are as light emitting diodes and sensors. It is utilized for the production of fertile, transgenic maize plants. Silicon carbide whiskers and zirconium diboride ceramic. It compositely plays an important role in the crack-healing behavior.

Anwendungen
Siliciumcarbid wird in Schleifmitteln, beim Polieren und Mahlen verwendet. Es wird häufig in Anwendungen eingesetzt, die eine hohe Lebensdauer erfordern, wie z. B. Automobilbremsen, Autokupplungen und Keramikplatten in kugelsicheren Westen. Elektronische Anwendungen von Siliciumcarbid sind Leuchtdioden und Sensoren. Löslichkeit
Löslich in flüssigem Natriumhydroxid, Kaliumhydroxid und in geschmolzenem Eisen.
