Propargyl bromide is used as an alkylating agent as well as an intermediate for the synthesis of organic compounds, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. It reacts with magnesium in presence of ether to get a Grignard reagent namely allenylmagnesium bromide, which on further reaction with propargyl bromide prepares bis-allene 1,2,4,5-hexatetraene. Also, used as metal brightening agents, corrosion inhibitor and soil fumigant.

Anwendungen
Propargylbromid wird als Alkylierungsmittel sowie als Zwischenprodukt für die Synthese von organischen Verbindungen, Agrochemikalien und Pharmazeutika verwendet. Es reagiert in Gegenwart von Äther mit Magnesium und bildet die Grignard-Verbindung Allenylmagnesiumbromid, das bei weiterer Reaktion mit Propargylbromid zu bis-Allen-1,2,4,5-Hexatetrain wird. Wird auch als Aufhellungsmittel für Metall, als Korrosionshemmer und Bodenbegasungsmittel verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Ethanol, Äther, Benzol, Tetrachlormethan und Chloroform. Nicht mit Wasser mischbar.

Hinweise
Lichtempfindlich. Kühl lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit Basen, starken Oxidationsmitteln, Kupfer, Peroxiden, Silber, Silberoxiden, Quecksilber und Quecksilberoxiden.
