o-Cresol is mainly used as a precursor to other compounds. Kolbe-Schmitt carboxylation gives o-cresotinic acid, a pharmaceutical intermediate. The muscle relaxant Mephenesin is an ether derived from o-cresol. Used as adhesives and sealant chemicals, fuels and fuel additives, intermediates, Solvents, Paints and coatings.

Anwendungen
o-Cresol wird hauptsächlich als Vorläufer anderer Verbindungen verwendet. Die Kolbe-Schmitt-Carboxylierung ergibt o-Cresotinsäure, ein pharmazeutisches Zwischenprodukt. Das Muskelrelaxans Mephenesin ist ein Ether, der aus o-Cresol abgeleitet ist. Wird für Klebstoffe und Dichtungsmittel, Kraftstoffe und Kraftstoffadditive, Zwischenprodukte, Lösungsmittel, Farben und Beschichtungen verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Chloroform und Ether. Nicht wasserlöslich, aber löslich in ungefähr 40 Teilen Wasser. Löslich in Tetrachlorkohlenstoff

Hinweise
Kühl und trocken in einem gut versiegelten Behälter lagern. Von starken Oxidationsmitteln fernhalten. Behälter dicht verschlossen lassen.
