O-Acetylsalicylic acid is the prototypical analgesic used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain. acts as an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase which results in the inhibition of the biosynthesis of prostaglandins. Aspirin also inhibits platelet aggregation and is used in the prevention of arterial and venous thrombosis. Along with sodium salicylate (sc-3520), aspirin has been shown to block the long terminal repeat from the human immunodeficiency virus and the Ig κ enhancer from NFκB dependent transcription.

Anwendungen
O-Acetylsalicylsäure ist das prototypische Analgetikum zur Behandlung leichter bis mittelschwerer Schmerzen. wirkt als Inhibitor der Cyclooxygenase und hemmt so die Biosynthese von Prostaglandinen. Aspirin hemmt auch die Thrombozytenaggregation und wird zur Prävention von arterieller und venöser Thrombose eingesetzt. Neben Natriumsalicylat (sc-3520) hat sich auch Aspirin als Blocker der langen terminalen Wiederholung des humanen Immundefizienz-Virus und des Igκ-Enhancers aus der NFκB-abhängigen Transkription erwiesen.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in 100 % Ethanol (80 mg/ml), DMSO (41 mg/ml) oder Dimethylformamid (30 mg/ml); schwer löslich in phosphatgepufferter Kochsalzlösung (PBS), pH 7.2 (2.7 mg/ml).
