It is widely used in the production of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. Cyanamide was used as nitrogen source in thermal transformation of metal oxide nanoparticles into nanocrystalline metal nitrides. It was used in the synthesis of mesoporous graphitic C3N4. Cyanamide in aqueous solution or in the form of its calcium salt is used as a fertilizer in agriculture. It is a potent inhibitor of liver aldehyde dehydrogenases.

Anwendungen
Es wird häufig bei der Herstellung von Arzneimitteln und anderen organischen Verbindungen eingesetzt. Cyanamid wurde als Stickstoffquelle bei der thermischen Umwandlung von Metalloxid-Nanopartikeln in nanokristalline Metallnitride eingesetzt. Es wurde in der Synthese mesoporöser graphitischer C3N4 verwendet. Cyanamid ist ein wirksames Mittel zur Behandlung von Alkoholsucht. Cyanamid in wässriger Lösung oder in Form seines Calciumsalzes wird als Düngemittel in der Landwirtschaft eingesetzt. Es ist ein starker Inhibitor der Leber-Aldehyd-Dehydrogenasen in vivo.
