Anwendungen
Chloressigsäure wird bei der Herstellung von Pharmazeutika, Farbstoffen, Tensiden, synthetischem Koffein, Glycin und Thioglycolsäure als Stabilisator in PVC verwendet. Dient als Vorläufer von Glyphosat und Adrenalin. Dient auch als Konservierungsmittel und Bakteriostat. Darüber hinaus als oberflächenaktiver Wirkstoff und lichtempfindliche Chemikalie verwendet. Zudem Verwendung bei der O-Alkylierung von Salicylaldehyd und als aktiver Bestandteil in Kosmetika. An der Herstellung von Verdickungsmittel Carboxymethylcellulose und Carboxymethylstärke beteiligt.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Wasser, Methanol, Aceton, Diethylether, Benzol, Chloroform und Ethanol.

Hinweise
Inkompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln, starken Basen und starken Reduktionsmitteln.
