It acts as a stimulant drug and a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It plays an important role for the inactivation of Escherichia coli O 157:H 7 in brain heart infusion (BHI) broth. It is also useful for the protection from photodamage after ultraviolet irradiation.
