Butyronitrile serves as an intermediate in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. It is also involved in the preparation of n-butylamine, butanamide and butyric acid. It acts as a precursor to the poultry drug amprolium. Further, it reacts with phosphorochloridic acid diethyl ester to prepare (1-cyano-propyl)-phosphonic acid diethyl ester. It is also employed to study the effect of stereochemical factors on intervalence charge transfer. In addition to this, it is used in electrolyte composition in dye-sensitized solar cells.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. Anwendungen
Butyronitril dient als Zwischenprodukt in der chemischen und pharmazeutischen Industrie. Auch an der Herstellung von n-Butylamin, Butanamid und Buttersäure beteiligt. Vorläuferstoff für das in der Geflügelzucht verwendete Medikament Amprolium. Reagiert darüber hinaus mit Diethylchlorphosphat zu (1-Cyan-propyl)-phosphonsäure-diethylester. Wird in Studien zur Auswirkung stereochemischer Faktoren auf den Intervalenz-Charge-Transfer eingesetzt. Ein weiteres Einsatzgebiet ist die Elektrolytzusammensetzung in Farbstoffsolarzellen.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Benzol, Alkohol, Ether und Dimethylformamid. Schwer in Wasser löslich.

Hinweise
Nicht kompatibel mit starken Säuren, starken Basen, starken Oxidationsmitteln und starken Reduktionsmitteln.
