Bathophenanthroline is widely used for determination of iron in serum and urine by colorimtetry. It acts as buffer layer to improve the efficiency of organic photovoltaic cells. It is very useful as a scavenger reagent, for the removal of traces of iron and copper from reagent solutions, which is used in the trace metal determination. Iron bathophenanthroline complex is involved as a redox mediating agent for imaging surface immobilized deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by using Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM).

Anwendungen
Bathophenanthroplin wird häufig für die Bestimmung von Eisen in Serum und Urin mittels Kolorimetrie verwendet. Es dient als Pufferschicht zur Verbesserung der Effizienz organischer Photovoltaik-Zellen. Es ist sehr nützlich als Spülreagenz für die Entfernung von Spuren von Eisen und Kupfer aus Reagenzienlösungen, die bei der Spurenmetallbestimmung verwendet werden. Der Eisen-Badophenanthropoinkomplex ist als Redox-Vermittler an der Bildgebung der oberflächenimmobilisierten Desoxyribonukleinsäure (DNA) mit Hilfe der Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM)-Methode beteiligt.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in organischen Lösungsmitteln. Schwer löslich in säurehaltigen wässrigen Lösungen. Unlöslich in neutralen oder alkalischen Lösungen.

Hinweise
Kühl lagern. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
