Agar is the most suited solidifying agent for scientific applications that require incubation temperatures closer to human body temperature. Agar is used as a medium in bacteriology and plant biology, impression material in dentistry, biofertilizer in organic farming, and salt bridges in electrochemistry. It can be used to measure the motility and mobility of microorganism owing to the porous nature of the gel form of an agar or agarose medium.

Anwendungen
Agar ist das am besten geeignete Verfestigungsmittel für wissenschaftliche Anwendungen, die Inkubationstemperaturen erfordern, die näher an der menschlichen Körpertemperatur liegen. Agar wird als Medium in der Bakteriologie und Pflanzenbiologie, als Abformmaterial in der Zahnheilkunde, als Biodünger in der organischen Landwirtschaft und als Salzbrücke in der Elektrochemie eingesetzt. Es kann zur Messung der Motilität und Mobilität von Mikroorganismen aufgrund der porösen Natur der Gelform eines Agar- oder Agarose-Mediums verwendet werden.

Löslichkeit
Löslich in Wasser bei Temperaturen zwischen 95 0C und 100 0C. Unlöslich in kaltem Wasser.

Hinweise
Eine längere Exposition gegenüber hohen Temperaturen kann Agarpulver abbauen.
