Anwendungen
8-Hydroxychinolin wird als Antiseptikum und Desinfektionsmittel verwendet. Als alkoholische Lösung wird es in flüssigen Bandagen eingesetzt. Es wird zur Herstellung von Tris(8-hydroxychinolinat)aluminium verwendet, das als Komponente von organischen Leuchtdioden (OLEDs) Anwendung findet. Es wird auch als Reagenz und als Stabilisator von Wasserstoffperoxid in einem Raketenkraftstoffoxidierer verwendet. Es wird als Chelatbildner und als Träger für Radio-Indium für diagnostische Zwecke verwendet. Seine halogenierten Derivate werden als anti-infektiöse Wirkstoffe und orale Antiamoebika verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Fast unlöslich in Wasser und Diethylether. Hochlöslich in Ethanol, Aceton, Chloroform und Benzol. Löslich in Essigsäure, Ethanol, Aceton, Chloroform, Benzol und wässrigen Mineralsäuren. Unlöslich in Wasser und Diethylether.

Hinweise
Lichtempfindlich. Nicht kompatibel mit Oxidationsmitteln.
