4-Aminobenzoesäure wirkt als Magensäure-Sekretionshemmer. Es wird als Zwischenprodukt bei der Synthese von Folat (Vitamin BX), Azofarbstoffen und Cross-Linking-Wirkstoffen eingesetzt. Es ist auch im biomedizinischen Sektor für die Vorbereitung von lokalen Betäubungsmitteln und Salben nützlich. Sie wird in der Industrie häufig zur Herstellung pharmazeutischer Produkte, Aromen und Konservierungsstoffe verwendet. Sie ist als UV-blockierender Bestandteil in der Sonnenbräunungskosmetik aktiv beteiligt.
