(±)-2-Octanol is used in flavors, paints and coatings, defoaming agent, low-volatility solvent, lubricants, fuels, paints and coatings. It is used as a frother in mineral floatation and wetting agent. It acts as an intermediate in the preparation of surfactants, cosmetic emollients esters and plasticizers. Further, it is also used as a reagent in the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds and piperine derivatives. In addition to this, it is considered as an alternative of 2-ethylhexanol.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

Anwendungen
(^+)-2-Octanol wird in Aromen, Farben und Beschichtungen, Entschäumungsmitteln, schwach flüchtigen Lösungsmitteln, Schmierstoffen und Kraftstoffen verwendet. Wird als Schaum bei der Mineraltrennung durch Flotation und als Benetzungsmittel verwendet. Dient als Zwischenprodukt bei der Herstellung von Tensiden und Weichmachern in Kosmetika und Kunststoffen. Wird darüber hinaus als Reagenz bei der Synthese von pharmazeutischen Verbindungen und Piperinderivaten eingesetzt. Wird auch als Alternative für 2-Ethylhexanol betrachtet.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Diethylether, Aceton, Alkohol, den meisten gängigen organischen Lösungsmitteln, aromatischen und aliphatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen. Schwach mischbar mit kaltem Wasser.

Hinweise
Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln.
