2-(Methylthio)thiophene is used as an intermediate in synthetic chemistry. It is also used in the preparation of 2-thiocyanato-thiophene by reaction with cyanogen iodide using sodium methylmercatide as a reagent.

Anwendungen
2-(Methylthio)Thiophen wird als Zwischenprodukt in der synthetischen Chemie verwendet. Wird auch bei der Herstellung von 2-Thiocyanato-Thiophen durch Reaktion mit Cyanogen-Iodid verwendet, wobei Natriummethylmercatid als Reagenz verwendet wird.
