2-Mercapto-5-methylbenzimidazole is used as an additive in liquid paraffin. And also used in electrochemical techniques, corrosion inhibitors for steel under highly acidic conditions and pointed out that the effectiveness of the heterocyclic compound can be intimately associated to its molecular structure.

Anwendungen
2-Mercapto-5-Methylbenzimidazol wird als Zusatzstoff in flüssigem Paraffin verwendet. Außerdem wird es in elektrochemischen Verfahren eingesetzt, als Korrosionshemmer für Stahl unter stark sauren Bedingungen und zeigte, dass die Wirksamkeit der heterocyclischen Verbindung eng mit ihrer molekularen Struktur in Verbindung gebracht werden kann.

Hygroskopisch. Von starken Oxidationsmitteln fernhalten. Behälter dicht verschlossen lassen. Kühl und trocken in einem gut versiegelten Behälter lagern.
