2-Bromopropionyl bromide is used in the preparation of cellulose macroinitiator through direct acylation of cellulose in ionic liquid 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride. It is also used to prepare 3-(2-bromopropionyl)-2-oxazolidone derivatives and bromoester terminated poly(3-hexylthiophene). Further, it is used as a macroinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization of acrylates.

Anwendungen
2-Brompropionylbromid wird bei der Herstellung von Cellulose-Makroinitiatoren durch direkte Acylierung von Cellulose in der ionischen Flüssigkeit 1-Allyl-3-methylimidazoliumchlorid verwendet. Es wird auch zur Herstellung von 3-(2-Brompropionyl)-2-oxazolidonderivaten und Bromester-terminierten Poly(3-hexylthiophen) verwendet. Weiterhin wird es als Makroinitiator für die Atom-Transfer-Radikal-Polymerisation von Acrylaten verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Trichlormethan, Diethylether, Benzol und Aceton.
