It is used as an intermediate of organic synthesis and pharmaceutical. It also can react with norborn-2-ene to get 5-phenyl-1,2,3,4,4a,8b-hexahydro-1,4-methanobiphenylene, in synthesis of a novel trispirocyclic hydrocarbon. It is used as a reference compound to investigate extraction efficiency of solid-phase micro extraction fibers, based on methacrylic acid-trimethylolpropanetrimethacrylate copolymers.

Anwendungen
Dient als Zwischenprodukt bei der organischen Synthese und in Pharmazeutika. In einer Reaktion mit Norborn-2-en kann es außerdem 5-Phenyl-1,2,3,4,4a,8b-hexahydro-1,4-methanobiphenylen ergeben, also einen neuartigen trispirozyklischen Kohlenwasserstoff synthetisieren. Es dient als Referenzverbindung bei der Untersuchung der Extraktionseffizienz von Festphasenmikroextraktionsfasern basierend auf Copolymeren aus Methacrylsäure und Trimethylolpropantrimethacrylat.

Unlöslich in Wasser.
