Beschreibung
2,2-Dimethoxypropane acts as a dehydrating agent. It also serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of vitamin E, vitamin A and various carotenoids such as astaxanthin. It is used as a reagent for the preparation of 1,2-diols, acetonides, isopropylidene derivatives of sugars, nucleosides, methyl esters of amino acids and enol ethers.

2,2-Dimethoxypropan wirkt als Trocknungsmittel. Es dient auch als Zwischenprodukt in der Synthese von Vitamin E, Vitamin A und verschiedenen Carotinoiden wie Astaxanthin. Es wird als Reagenz für die Herstellung von 1,2-diolen, Acetoniden, Isopropylidenderivaten von Zuckern, Nukleosiden, Methylestern von Aminosäuren und Enolethern verwendet.
Löslichkeit
Löslich in Benzol, Kohlenstofftetrachlorid, Ethylether und n-Butan, Methanol. Mäßig löslich in Alkohol.
Hinweise
Nicht kompatibel mit Oxidationsmitteln und Säuren.
