1,4-Butanesulton ist ein alkylierendes Mittel, das in der synthetischen Chemie verwendet wird. Dient als Holzkonservierungsmittel. Wird als Zwischenprodukt des organischen Sulfonationsmittels eingesetzt. Wird außerdem als Rohmaterial für Galvanisierungszwischenlager verwendet. Findet darüber hinaus Anwendung in pharmazeutischen Wirkstoffen, fotografischen Materialien, Lithium-Batterien und oberflächenaktiven Wirkstoffen.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Chloroform und Methanol. Leicht mit Wasser mischbar.

Hinweise
Feuchtigkeitsempfindlich. Nicht kompatibel mit starken Oxidationsmitteln und starken Basen.
