Anwendungen
1,2-Propandiol wird in Frostschutzmitteln und Enteisungslösungen für Autos, Boote und Flugzeuge verwendet. Findet zudem Verwendung, um harmlosen, künstlichen Rauch für Schulungs- und Theaterzwecke zu erzeugen. Verwendung als Befeuchtungs-Lösungsmittel und Konservierungsmittel in Lebensmitteln. Dient als Lösungsmittel für Farben und Kunststoffe. Zudem Verwendung bei der Herstellung von Milchsäure durch grüne katalytische Oxidation, Propanal und Propylen-Karbonat. Einsatz auch in der Veterinärmedizin als orale Behandlung für Hyperketonämie bei Wiederkäuern. Zudem Reaktion mit Propylenoxid zur Herstellung von Oligomeren.

Löslichkeit
Mischbar mit Wasser, Benzol, Aceton, Chloroform und Äther. Unmischbar mit festen Ölen.

Hinweise
Hygroskopisch. Nicht kompatibel mit sauren Chloriden, Säureanhydriden, Oxidationsmitteln, Chloroformiaten und Reduktionsmitteln.
